To do anything useful in Warlords III, you must first select a group
of armies (called a 'Stack').

In the top left hand corner of your capitol city, you will see a group of
6 armies led by your Hero (note the number 6 on the white disc - this tells
you the number of armies in a Stack).  The most important army in the Stack
(in this case, your hero) always appears on top.

To select this stack, move your cursor over the armies and left-click
once.  You will see the group appear in the panel on the right hand side.
